FAR-West Teaches with Laurel Thomsen and Susie Glaze “Virtual Teaching for Success”
May 27, 2021 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM PDT
For the next episode of our popular “FAR-West Teaches” series, FAR-West (Folk Alliance Region West) is proud to present “Virtual Teaching for Success”, on May 27th at 2 PM PDT, featuring Laurel Thomsen and hosted by Susie Glaze.
Laurel Thomsen is a violinist, violist, touring artist and teacher who switched from in-person to primarily virtual teaching in 2009. Since then, Laurel has taught students on all continents except Antarctica, all while touring 150 dates per year, pre-pandemic. This experience made the transition to Covid-inspired all-virtual life a seamless one for Laurel. In this workshop, she will share tips on marketing virtual lessons, ideas on modifying teaching methods and although geared toward music lessons, there will be helpful tips that can be useful to other types of virtual teachers.
The conversation with Laurel Thomsen will be hosted by award-winning vocalist and FAR-West Board Vice-President, Susie Glaze. Come join the interaction and live Q & A on YouTube.com/farwestconference.
Susie Glaze ~ Award-winning recording artist, Broadway singer, journalist, educator and critically acclaimed powerhouse vocalist, Susie Glaze has been called “one of the most beautiful voices in bluegrass and folk music today” by Roz Larman of KPFK’s Folk Scene. LA Weekly voted her ensemble Best New Folk in their Best of LA Weekly for 2019, calling Susie “an incomparable vocalist.” “A flat-out superb vocalist… Glaze delivers warm, amber-toned vocals that explore the psychic depth of a lyric with deft acuity and technical perfection.” As an educator, Susie has lectured at USC Thornton School of Music and Cal State Northridge on “Balladry to Bluegrass,” illuminating the historical path of ancient folk forms in the United Kingdom to the United States via immigration into the mountains of Appalachia. She is a current specialist in performance and historian on the work of American folk music icon, Jean Ritchie. Susie now offers private voice coaching online via the Zoom platform. www.susieglaze.com
