Gurf has made eleven critically acclaimed albums of his own and toured the world supporting them. Gurf worked for more than a decade as Lucinda Williams’ producer, band-leader, guitar player, and backing vocalist. He toured with Warren Zevon and produced a number of classic Americana albums, including records by Ray Wylie Hubbard, Mary Gauthier, Ian McLagan, Robert Earl Keen, and Slaid Cleaves. Legendary Austin songwriter Blaze Foley was Gurf’s best friend, and Gurf has produced two albums of Foley’s music, plus consulted for and appeared in the 2018 bio-pic ‘Blaze,’ directed by Ethan Hawke.
