James Keelaghan & Hugh McMillan European Online show, Oct 6 LIVE from Perth, ON!
October 6 @ 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM CDT$10 – $25
Oct 6, 2020 Home Routes / Chemin Chez Nous is proud to present James Keelaghan and Hugh McMillan, broadcasting LIVE from Perth, ON, in collaboration with the Calgary Folk Club! Tickets are available for purchase now, at https://homeroutes.ca/product/oct-6-2020-2pm-ct-8pm-gmt-james-keelaghan-hugh-mcmillan-uk/ and buyers will be able to engage with the artists in real time and interact with other like minded attendees.
Audiences will be treated to one of the most respected and engaging songwriters in Canada, James Keelaghan, and one of the best accompanists on the planet, Hugh McMillan, in a duo performance that delivers the goods – James and Hugh have been musical buddies for over 49 years with Hugh providing nuanced accompaniment to James’ powerful and moving songs. As an added bonus, this virtual Zoom performance will also include a live Q&A session with the artists.
James Keelaghan is based in Perth, Ontario, and is a JUNO and CFMA award winning singer-songwriter whose history based songs have become part of the canon of North American folk music. With 13 CDs, appearances on the mainstages of festivals from Europe to Australia, James Keelaghan enters the fourth decade of his career in top form. His songs have become folk classics, not only recorded by other artists, but sung around campfires, at jam sessions and open stages. His ability of turning historical events into moving songs is unmatched. Rich imagery and a keen eye for narrative have caused some to say that his songs are like 5 minute films–close your eyes and you can feel the heat of a raging forest fire, see a piano sacrificed to the sea in order to maintain dignity, taste the whiskey from an obscure Northern Irish bar. Then there is the voice, strong as an oak, soft as velvet, as reassuring as a hug from a close friend. James Keelaghan is a Canadian national treasure.
Hugh McMillan is a member of the folk rock band Spirit of the West, and is a multi-instrumentalist who has played guitars, bass, banjo, trombone, mandolins, Chapman stick, piano, and keyboards on the band’s albums. He has also produced albums for a number of Canadian folk bands, and has collaborated with Canadian artists including Oscar Lopez, and his friend, James Keelaghan.
