The Mechanical Licensing Collective – or “The MLC” for short – is a new, nonprofit music industry organization designated by the U.S. Copyright Office pursuant to the historic Music Modernization Act of 2018. The MLC was created to serve music publishers and self-administered songwriters, lyricists, and composers. Beginning in 2021, The MLC will issue and administer blanket mechanical licenses for interactive audio streaming and download services (also known as digital service providers or DSPs) in the U.S. The MLC will then collect the royalties due under those licenses from the DSPs and distribute the payments. What does that mean for you? Learn how this organization is being built from the ground up and what you can do to make sure you are receiving this important income stream.
The MLC’s CEO, Kris Ahrend, NSAI’s Executive Director, Bart Herbison, and NMPA’s EVP & General Counsel, Danielle Aguirre, will join in conversation to explain it all.
