Donors are crucial to our work to to serve, strengthen, and engage the global folk music community through preservation, presentation, and promotion.

Folk music is the music of all people: the stories of every region, community, and ethnic group carried through song. Practitioners of these arts forms need the support of a complex web of contacts and specialized knowledge to be successful. Folk Alliance International is dedicated to connecting and educating professionals within the genre, advocating on their behalf, and strategically growing the awareness of folk genre(s) nationally and internationally. We embrace a wide definition of folk including, but not limited to, Appalachian, Americana, Blues, Bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, Global Roots, Hip-Hop, Old-Time, Singer-Songwriter, Spoken Word, Traditional, Zydeco, and various fusions.

Folk music is a powerful medium to build a more creative and compassionate society. It spurs awareness of other cultures and perspectives, encourages introspection into the nature of storytelling, and calls us to action to be a conduit of our deepest held social and political values. Bringing greater diversity to our events challenges our assumptions while revealing our similarities. We plan all of our activities and programs with this spirit of inspiration and collective traditions.
